Crystal Geode Bookends

I've had a deepening obsession with crystals lately. I came across these lovely crystal geode bookends at a street vendor on Myrtle, a half of block off of the Knickerbocker M train station:

When I originally saw them I hesitated and didn't buy them because of my budget...but I kept thinking about them and ran after work the next day to pick them up! I snagged the pair for just $30. The table I bought it was run by this couple, who were so sweet and eager to tell me the history behind each and every thing on the table for sale. These geodes were mined in Brazil. They also had African soapstone sculptures of elephants and people, jewelry, and even rabbits' foot key chains.

Google Street View

So I came across this really interesting photo-essay about Google Street view...it talks about the methodic photographing of streets by Google for the Google Maps website, and how the images unintentionally offer a look at our humanity. The article is curated with different screenshots taken from Google Street View that highlight different aspects of our daily lives, and how we function within our environments.

Out of a Rut

So some very very bad things (ok, maybe not so bad) happend this month, one of which being the Great Crash of my PC....the only internet I had was my BlackBerry. Everything's gone (47 Gigs of music, six years worth of photos) until I can work up enough cash for data recovery...

Lesson Learned: BACK UP YOUR FILES PEOPLE!

However, I was awarded three concellation prizes as a result of a bad month:

• I got a new PC! Yay! An HP Pavillion Slimline, purchased from Best Buy...500 Gig Hard drive, 4 Gigs of memory...Apparently, I was living in 1992 with my old tower, which only had a 60 Gig Hard drive...
• I got my digital camera returned!! Get ready for more photo blogs. I had lost it SIX months ago at a bar, and went back there to an angelic bar maid who was very excited to return it to me...Lesson Learned: TIP YOUR SERVERS!
• I got a month of free Cable TV from Time Warner as an "I'm Sorry" after they screwed something up on my account...yay pop culture!

So all the loose ends are TIED finally. I'm a VERY happy camper.

So this rockin' little (read TINY masters of today) band has been gaining some spotlight...collaborating with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and preforming at this year's Coney Island Siren festival, these kids have big things in thier future, and most importantly of all, they're having an absolute blast along the way while maintaining thier own personal style.

Visual Book Marking

So I stumbled upon this website that essentially is a visual scrapbook on the internet. As you surf the web, you ‘fffind’ things that may interest or inspire you, or simply catch your eye, and you can add it to your ffffound page. It’s almost like Facebook’s ‘Like’ button, but for the whole internet. The home page shows current popular images, and tells you how many user’s ffffound that item. Another feature I LOVED was when you click on a photo, the website recommends other images you may like. I believe the images are selected by similar key words, and also by the users with similar taste. (Almost like Amazon.com’s ‘customers who bought this also looked at’ feature)

I was very very excited to participate in all of this, until I found out that you must be invited to become a user, keeping the website exclusive to only designers and professionals established in the design/blog world.

As a consolation prize, I found this other GEM of a website: Weheartit.com that operates on the same premise, but lets EVERYONE create an account.
